Today is Catholic Education Sunday and marks the start of Catholic Week. The theme this year is ‘Opening Minds and Hearts to God.’ This theme reflects the words of Pope Benedict when he introduced the Year of Faith when he said “What the world is in particular need of today is the credible witness of people enlightened in mind and heart by the word of the Lord, and capable of opening the minds and hearts of many to the desire for God and for true life, life without end.
There will be a retiral collection next Sunday at both Masses for the work of the Scottish Catholic Education Service which is the official arm of the Bishops’ Conference of Scotland in all matters relating to Catholic Education. It provides support, resources and advice to the Bishops, to schools and to parishes across Scotland.
Today: Those who were kind enough to offer their services as a reader towards the end of last year are invited to a preparation and practice session at 3.00 p.m. Until such time as you have managed along to a session like this regretfully you cannot be added to the rota.
Sunday: During Mass, Sarah Callaghan and Patricia McLenaghan, who are preparing to become full members of the Church at Easter, take the next step on their journey with the commissioning for the Rite of Election which takes place in the Cathedral on the first Sunday of Lent. Please continue to support them in your prayers.
