Today: There will be a retiral collection at both Masses for Peter’s Pence. The money collected is sent to the Vatican and is used by the Holy Father to respond to various charitable requests he receives for aid.
Today: The box is at the back of the Church into which you can put petitions for prayer to be taken to Lourdes. These should be in a sealed envelope and with no money inside since they are often burned unopened by Wednesday. These will be taken to the Grotto and Mass will be offered for all the intentions.
Sunday: The Mass in honour of Our Lady of Lourdes takes place in the Church at 3.00 p.m.in advance of the Archdiocesan Pilgrimage which leaves on Friday. All welcome whether you are travelling to Lourdes or not.
Sunday: Over the holiday period, the normal coffee morning in the hall will be suspended but some parishioners and one of the normal groups have agreed to run a simplified session with teas coffees and biscuits/croissants available. Many thanks to them for agreeing to provide this service.
Thursday: The coffee morning after 9.00 a.m. is taking a break over the holiday period and will resume in September. Loose coins can still be handed in at the card stall. Many thanks for continuing to do this.
The Stall has the new editions of ‘Living Faith’ covering the months from July – September available, priced £1.40.
The Parish Pastoral Council met on Thursday to review and reflect on the progress so far with the forms which many of you were kind enough to return in the recent census. All the forms which were returned have now been added to a new database. The plan is that between now and mid August there will be lists created of those who kindly offered to become more involved in the life of the Parish either by offering their services or creating new groups identified by the returns. In mid August the task of contacting everyone will begin, organised by the Parish Pastoral Council members, explaining what is involved and to confirm that people still wish to be involved.
It is still possible to complete a form and hand it in. More have been printed but in a different colour to avoid confusion.
If you know of any neighbour who is a Parishioner and for whatever reason does not come to Mass in St. Cuthbert’s and feel able to approach them please take a form for them.
As the holiday season is now upon us will all Readers, Eucharistic Ministers and Altar Servers please remember to ensure they have arranged cover if they are going to be away. This is especially important when a visiting priest is here to celebrate Mass. Please use the ‘post its’ in the sacristy to let me know about any swaps you make. Please don’t write on the rotas themselves.
Holidays: If you are going away, I hope you have a safe journey and come back refreshed and relaxed. If you are staying at home, I hope you find some time to relax and take a break from your usual routine.
If you are a visitor, you are welcome to our Parish, our city and our country.
Emergency Cover while I am in Lourdes will be provided by Father Tom (449.2372), Father Tony Quinlan at St. John Ogilvie’s (453.5035) or Father Kevin Lowry at St. Joseph’s (443.3777) I am grateful to them for providing this support and to the parishioners who will be looking after the house and leading the liturgies on weekdays.
A story for those flying off to holiday resorts:
An aeroplane flew into a violent thunderstorm and was soon swaying and bumping around the sky. One very nervous lady happened to be sitting next to a priest and turned to him. “Can’t you do something?” she demanded angrily. “I’m sorry ma’am,” the priest said gently, “I’m in sales, not management.”
With every best wish and blessing
to you, your families and those
who are dear to you
Monsignor Tony
