Today: All altar servers please collect their new rotas from the sacristy after Mass and read the notes with it carefully.

Today is Mission Sunday, when we are asked to unite in prayer and financial support for the missionary work of the Church. There will be a retiral collection at the end of Mass.

Today: There still copies of the various letters distributed last weekend. Please collect your copies if you have not already done so.

Today: Just when you thought it was safe – another letter this time from all the Bishops of Scotland explain the structure of the Church in Scotland. Please make sure you get your copy as you leave Mass.

Sunday: The coffee morning takes place in the Hall after Mass. The Vocations Group will be in charge today.  Why not go round to the Hall after Mass and sample the goods on offer.

The monthly draw for the 200 club will also take place.

 

Diary Dates:

31st October: St. Cuthbert’s Primary School Open Day takes place from 9.30 a.m. – 10.30 a.m. or 1.30 p.m. – 2.30 p.m. All are welcome but especially parents who have just moved into the area and are looking for a school for their child. If you can manage please contact the acting Head Teacher and arrange a suitable time.  You will be welcome.

3rd November:  Young people in the 10-15 age range are invited to an Archdiocesan Youth Day led by Archbishop Cushley and held at the Gillis Centre in Edinburgh from 11.00 a.m. to 2.30p.m.. The theme of the day will be “The Saints”. Please bring a packed lunch. To reserve places, contact Youth3Nov@gmail.com by Friday 26 October.

5th November: During this week, St. Cuthbert’s school will be enrolling for the August 2019 Primary 1 intake. If your child was born between 1st March 2014 and 28th February 2015 and you live within the school catchment area then they are eligible for enrolment. The school will have Open Enrolment sessions on 5th November from 2.00 p.m. – 3.00 p.m. and 7th November from 9.30 a.m. – 12 noon. Non district application forms are available from the school office and must be returned to the City of Edinburgh Council by 21st December. If you cannot manage the days and times mentioned above please contact the school on 443.2621 to arrange an appointment. You need to provide your child’s birth certificate, Baptismal certificate (if applicable) a council tax notice with your valid for the current year and a utility bill in your name dated within the last six months.

17th November: ‘Preparing for the Year of Luke’. To help prepare ourselves for the start of the new Liturgical Year there will be a seminar led by Father Andrew Garden in the Gillis Centre from 11.00 a.m. – 3.30 p.m. It will consist of input from him, as well as directed prayer opportunities and a presentation on public reading. Those attending should book at VECatechetics@staned.org.uk and also bring a packed lunch.

17th November: The next Fundraiser for the Parish Project Fund will be a 60’s Disco in Currie Bowling Club organised by the social group in Our Lady’s. Tickets will be going on sale soon but in the meantime please put the date in your diary and come along to refresh your memories.

28th November: Following on the upgrading of the gents’ toilets in the Hall, a major clean up of the whole hall and its contents is needed before the Ceilidh. It would be great if as many as possible came along to carry this out so that the Hall will in immaculate condition for the Ceilidh.  Any time from 7.00 p.m. onwards would be ideal.

30th November: St. Andrew’s Night Social evening in the Church Hall with mix of ceilidh music, live 60s/70s music and haggis neeps and tatties available. Tickets priced £10 for adults and £3.00 for children are on sale after Mass. All proceeds will go to the Parish Project Fund including various fund raisers on the night.

 

The current total for the Parish Project Fund is £8125.08 Once the fund raising is finished at the end of the year this will be split between the Aid to the Church in Need project in North East Nigeria and Street work here in Edinburgh.

 

Share the journey exhibitionStories from the Rohingya Refugees in Bangladesh will take place in St. Patrick’s Cowgate from 8.00 a.m. – 6.00 p.m. every day until 9th November. All welcome to view this moving exhibition.

 

I will be remembering you and your intentions in my prayers in Lourdes this week while there as chaplain to a National Across group on the Jumbulance. Emergency Cover while I am in Lourdes will be provided by Father Tom (449.2372), Father Tony Quinlan at St. John Ogilvie’s (453.5035) or the Augustinian Community at St. Joseph’s Broomhouse (443.3777). I am grateful to them for providing this support and to the parishioners who will be leading the liturgies and looking after the house.
