This is split between the Vatican for use in African countries where the Church needs financial support and the Holy Land where it is used to maintain the Christian sites and support pastoral work with both Christian and non-Christian groups.
Diary Dates:
26th August: The annual deanery mission appeal will take place with a member of the Comboni Fathers coming. He will speak about the particular missionary work the Comboni Fathers carry out and appeal for our support in prayer and through a retiral collection.
26th August: The Mass of Thanksgiving for the recent Archdiocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes will take place in the Church at 3.00 p.m. Refreshments will be served in the Hall afterwards. All welcome whether you travelled to Lourdes this year or not.
2nd September: Tickets for the Parish Barbeque in Our Lady’s are on sale after Mass, priced £7.50; £5.00 for children; £20.00 for a family ticket. (same prices as last year). Please see poster and sheets at the back of the Church for indicating any special dietary needs. All are welcome so why not stay a bit after Mass and join in.
2nd September: National Pilgrimage to Carfin in honour of St. John Ogilvie with Mass at 3.00 p.m. at which Archbishop Tartaglia of Glasgow will be the main celebrant and Bishop Robson of Dunkeld will be the preacher. All welcome.
8th September: Archbishop Cushley will be celebrating the 6.30 p.m. Vigil Mass in St. Mary’s, Ratho. This marks the Decree he has issued coming into effect. All welcome to attend this Mass especially if you have some connection with the Parish in the past.
9th September: Annual Pilgrimage to pray for the Canonisation of the Venerable Margaret Sinclair. This year it has been suggested that we have a sponsored walk along the canal to arrive in time for the time of prayer and the showing of a film about the Venerable Margaret. It is approximately 3½ miles and takes about 1½ hours gathering at Dominoes and from there along the Canal Path or going straight in along Slateford Road, Fountainbridge, Bread Street, Grassmarket, Cowgate. The day there begins at 2.00 p.m., with time for prayer, then the showing of a new 30 minute film on the Venerable Margaret, and finishes with Mass at 4.30 p.m. You can drop in for as much or as little of the time at the Church.
Sponsor forms are ready after Mass if you are interested in taking part and raising funds for the Parish Project. Please also sign on the sheet to let us know you have taken one so we know how many people to expect. If you want to meet us there and go in on the bus, that is fine also. Maybe get people to sponsor you by the number of bus stops between Dominoes and St. Patrick’s.
15th September: ‘A Day for Children’s Liturgy Leaders at the Gillis Centre from 11.00 a.m. – 3.00 p.m. If you are involved and are interested in going, Janice has some fliers and there are also some in the sacristy. Booking is required.
6th October: A Day Conference on the theme ‘The Role of the Laity in the Church Today.’ Full details of the programme for the day and details of the key note speakers are on the poster at the back of the Church and also on the fliers available as you leave Mass. Registration is needed if you wish to attend and details of this are on the flier.
We remember the school staffs and pupils who return to school in the course of the coming week. May the Lord bless them in their efforts throughout the new session.
With every best wish and blessing
to you, your families and those
who are dear to you
Monsignor Tony.
