Today: The Decree, promulgated by Archbishop Cushley, affecting the parishioners of St. Mary’s Ratho and Our Lady, Mother of the Church, Currie was made available to the parishioners of both parishes. If you wish to read it, it can be found on the new Archdiocesan Website. This can be accessed by opening www.archedinburgh.org and then click on the Administration Tab; scroll down to and click on the Resources tab at the foot of the page and you will see a number of decrees listed. Click on the Ratho/Currie one and it should open up. Although it does not affect St. Cuthbert’s directly it will indirectly since as Parish Priest of Our Lady’s it is an added responsibility. There a few hard copies at the back of the Church. The practicalities will be worked out in due course but it should not be assumed that there will be no impact on St. Cuthbert’s. There will be.
Please pray, in particular, for the parishioners of St. Mary’s Ratho who are losing both their Church and their Parish as they become part of Our Lady’s.
Diary Dates:
2nd September: National Pilgrimage to Carfin in honour of St. John Ogilvie with Mass at 3.00 p.m. at which Archbishop Tartaglia of Glasgow will be the main celebrant and Bishop Robson of Dunkeld will be the preacher. All welcome.
9th September: Annual Pilgrimage to pray for the Canonisation of the Venerable Margaret Sinclair. This year it has been suggested that we have a sponsored walk along the canal to arrive in time for the time of prayer and the showing of a film about the Venerable Margaret. It is approximately 3½ miles and takes about 1½ hours gathering at Dominoes and from there along the Canal Path or going straight in along Slateford Road, Fountainbridge, Bread Street, Grassmarket, Cowgate. The day there begins at 2.00 p.m., with time for prayer, then the showing of a new 30 minute film on the Venerable Margaret, and finishes with Mass at 4.30 p.m. You can drop in for as much or as little of the time at the Church.
Sponsor forms are ready after Mass if you are interested in taking part and raising funds for the Parish Project. Please also sign on the sheet to let us know you have taken one so we know how many people to expect. If you want to meet us there and go in on the bus, that is fine also. Maybe get people to sponsor you by the number of bus stops between Dominoes and St. Patrick’s.
15th September: ‘A Day for Children’s Liturgy Leaders at the Gillis Centre from 11.00 a.m. – 3.00 p.m. If you are involved and are interested in going, Janice has some fliers and there are also some in the sacristy. Booking is required.
The Archdiocese has launched its new website. It is work in progress. It can be found at archedinburgh.org if you are interested.
Holidays: If you are going away, I hope you have a safe journey and come back refreshed and relaxed. If you are staying at home, I hope you find some time to relax and take a break from your usual routine. If you are a visitor, you are welcome to our Parish, our city and our country.

The Diocesan Safeguarding Team has reminded us that, under the guidelines laid down, no child should go to the toilet without an adult member of his/her family escorting them. Please try to avoid going at critical times during the Mass e.g. during readings and especially during the Eucharistic Prayer and the words of consecration. Ideally, the toilet should be used before or after Mass and only during Mass if it is a genuine emergency.
Many thanks to those of you who bring foodstuffs for Fresh Start. They are much appreciated. Please only bring it on the first weekend of the month otherwise it can sometimes lie at the back of the church and can attract unwanted visitors with four legs and a long tail.
