Today is the Feast of the Epiphany and is marked in Scotland as a day of prayer for Justice and Peace. There will be a retiral collection after both Masses to support the work of the National Commission. There is also a letter from Bishop Nolan the Bishop President of the Commission. Please collect your copy as you leave.
Today: Please note that there is a basket at the crib for donations to the Archdiocesan Care Fund, a fund which the Archbishop uses to respond to various appeals for assistance he receives throughout the year.
Monday is the Feast of the Baptism of Our Lord and marks the end of the Christmas Season.
The Ordinary Time of the Church’s Year begins on Tuesday with the readings at weekday Masses being taken from Year 2.
Next Sunday: The children’s liturgy celebrations will resume at the 10.00 a.m. Mass. All children from P1 – P7 are welcome.

6th – 13th July: The annual Archdiocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes, led by Archbishop Cushley, will take place. 2018 marks the 160th anniversary of the apparitions. The 200 Club subscriptions are now due for 2018. If you are an existing member please put your money in an envelope with your name and number clearly marked on the outside. If you would like to join, and we do need some new members, please put your name and ‘new member’ on an envelope and a number will be allocated to you. It costs £12 per year. Prizes are 3 £10 prizes for ten months and in June and December prizes of £200 and £50 each month. If you are paying by cheque please make your cheque payable to St. Cuthbert’s Church.
Please remember, if you are planning to get married either in St. Cuthbert’s or Our Lady’s or if you live in the parish here but wish to be married elsewhere, a minimum period of six months notice must be given to enable proper preparation and completion of necessary documentation. If you have not booked your wedding for this year it is essential you contact me a soon as possible.
Safeguarding Mission Statement: In conformity with good practice, the Bishops of Scotland remind you of the Mission Statement. “The Catholic Church in Scotland is concerned with the lives, safety, wholeness and well-being of each individual person within God’s purpose for everyone. It seeks to safeguard the welfare of people of all ages who are involved in whatever capacity with the Church and its organisations. As a Church community, we accept that it is the responsibility of all of us, ordained, professed, paid and voluntary members, to work together to prevent the physical, sexual, emotional abuse or neglect of children, young people and vulnerable adults.”
A Letter of Thanks has been received from Sister Mary Aelred at St. Catharine’s Convent following on the delivery of the gifts collected during Advent. In it she says “It means so much to us here at the St. Catharine’s Convent Homeless Project to have such support from you in our work with the city’s homeless population who seem to be constantly on the increase. We continue to have a daily morning service with the project helpers during which we pray for all our generous benefactors.” The full text of the letter is on the notice board as you leave the Church.
The Stall has the new editions of ‘Day by Day’ and ‘Living Faith’ available for collection by those who have ordered them or for sale.
