Today: The Passkeepers will be distributing cards entitled “The Light is on For You”. Please take one if you would like to discover more about the Sacrament of Confession during this Year of Mercy, or please distribute to friends and family to encourage them to go during Lent. Please also note that there will be additional opportunities throughout Lent for you to come to confession. Please check the bulletin each week.
Sunday: The coffee morning takes place after Mass with the Vocations group in charge. You are all welcome to go round to the Hall after Mass to sample the fare on offer.
The monthly draw for the 200 Club will also take place.
Sunday: A ‘Remembering Service’ for all those who have suffered the loss of a child, from the beginning of pregnancy onwards to have time in quiet surroundings to help with healing will take place in St. John’s Corstorphine at 5.00 p.m.
Monday: Month’s Mind Mass for the late Bishop Ian Murray at 12.45 p.m. in the Cathedral. Bishop Murray’s funeral took place in Oban and this is the opportunity for the people of our Archdiocese of which he was a priest to pray for the repose of his souls
Monday: As part of our Lenten effort and the Jubilee Year of Mercy there will be Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament from 7.00 p.m. closing with Benediction at 7.45 p.m. Once the Blessed Sacrament has been exposed, I will be available for Confessions until the Benediction time. This pattern will be repeated on different days and at different times until Holy Week so please check the bulletin for more details as we journey through Lent.
Wednesday: “Views from the Pews” a panel of lay people will share their views and experience of family life following the Vatican Synod on the Family in St. Catharine’s Convent at 7.30 p.m. All are warmly welcome to come along.
Next Sunday: The second rite for the children preparing for their First Reconciliation will take place during the 10.00 a.m. Mass. This involves the Presentation of a Candle as a sign of Christ the Light of the World.
Next Sunday: The children’s liturgy will re-commence after the school holidays and will continue each week for the remainder of Lent. This is specifically aimed at children of primary school age, so if this is your child, please do encourage them to attend. Additional copies of the Lenten Calendar, given out last week, are available at the back of the church. It was great to see so many there recently and hopefully there will be as many when it restarts.
Next Sunday: Stations of the Cross and Benediction at 4.00 p.m. with the opportunity for confession afterwards. If any individual or group would like to lead the reflections at Stations please let me know so that it can be planned.
Diary Dates:
4th March: A Lenten evening of reflection through poetry and sacred music led by the Dovecot Singers in St. Catharine’s Convent at 7.30 p.m. There will be a retiral collection to support the work of the Homeless Project organised and supported through the Convent.
11th – 13th March: The Beginning Experience’ is hosting a weekend at the Conforti Institute in Coatbridge for those who find themselves single again for whatever reason. Further information is available from Ros on 669.0003 or by email on rcm2524@yahoo.co.uk
8th – 15th July: The annual Archdiocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes, led by Archbishop Cushley, will take place. Booking is now open and I have some forms and information if you are interested. I have a limited supply in the sacristy. You can also contact the travel agents direct at Tangney Tours, Pilgrim House, Station Court, Borough Green, Kent TN15 8AF (Tel. 01732.886666 or email to info@tangney-tours.com). Booking for the Saint-Frai Centre must be done through the Hospital Booking Secretary, 61 Hailes Gardens, Edinburgh EH13 0JN – Tel 0131.441.1939. Early booking is advised since there are limited places available especially in the Saint Frai centre.
A New Readers’ rota is about to be prepared. If you would like to become a part of this important aspect of Parish life please contact me as soon as possible with your details. No experience necessary since preparation and practice will be arranged.
