Vigil of Prayer for Peace

(This is not Mass but is an opportunity to come together on the last night of the year to give thanks to God for his Blessings and pray particularly for peace in our hearts, our homes, our country and our world.
There will be readings and prayers periodically throughout the time but there will also be quiet time with Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament.)

Although today is not a Holy day of Obligation it is an appropriate day to come to Mass and ask God’s blessings on the New Year just begun.
Next Saturday/Sunday is the Solemnity of the Epiphany. Readers please note that the readings are for the Feast Day. There will be a retiral collection for the National Justice and Peace Commission.
16th January: Following on his recent letter we have been told thi that there will be meeting of the cluster of St. Cuthbert’s, Our Lady’s, St. Joseph’s and St. John Ogilvie’s with Archbishop Cushley in St. Cuthbert’s Hall, at 11.00 a.m. All are welcome to this meeting to hear from the Archbishop his way forward for the restructuring of the Archdiocese.
Many many thanks and congratulations on raising the magnificent sum of £14700.00 for the Parish Projects’ Fund which is now closed. It is a tremendous achievement. The money has been sent on to the beneficiaries and hopefully in the New Year representatives will come along to personally thank you for all your efforts. In the New Year we will ask for suggestions for the next two year period.
Thank you very much indeed for the gifts and cards which you handed in to me over the Christmas season. They are very much appreciated and will be put to good use.
On this last Sunday of the year, it is also appropriate to thank all those members of the Parish who help in different ways to keep the Parish going throughout they year. I sometimes feel that many do not realise just how much work is done behind the scenes and as a result take for granted the efforts made by fellow parishioners. The work that is done to enhance the Liturgy in so many ways, to leading the Children’s Liturgy, to looking after the Fabric of the Church, Hall and House, to counting the collection, to carrying out administration roles such as typing and preparing the Newsletter, to working in the sacristy, to organising social events, to fundraising, to the groups carrying out pastoral roles, is critical to the well-being of the parish. My thanks go to all who help in these ways. My thanks also go to the members of the Parish Pastoral Council who support and advise in all sorts of ways.
The numbers involved are gradually diminishing and so there is a real need for more to become involved both to keep things going which exist and develop the lay involvement in the running of the Parish. Please make contact to find out how you can help your Parish in the weeks and months ahead.
