Welcome to Father James Tracey, Parish Priest of St. Kentigern’s who is celebrating the Vigil Mass and to Father Stefan Park O.S.A. from St. Joseph’s who is celebrating the 10.00 a.m. Mass. I am very grateful to them for stepping in at the last minute to enable me to accompany a group travelling to Lourdes by Jumbulance. I will be remembering you all and your intentions in my prayers at the Grotto.
Sunday: The Tea/Coffee Morning takes place in the Hall after Mass. This week the Noisy Nutters group will be in charge. Why not pop round after Mass for teas/coffee bacon rolls etc and also the chance to meet fellow parishioners ?
Tuesday: The Monthly Mass for Vocations has resumed in the Little Sisters of the Poor in Gilmore Place at 7.30 p.m. All welcome. Car parking is available. Refreshments served after Mass.
Wednesday: The Edinburgh Newman Circle are hosting the second in a series of meetings entitled ‘The Church Here and Now’ which seeks to encourage thought and discussion about the Church in these times. This time the topic is “What is it to be a Christian.” The speaker is Fr. John Farrell OP, Prior Provincial of the Dominicans. It takes place from 7.30 p.m. – 9.30p.m. in St. Catharine’s Convent, 4 Lauriston Gardens Edinburgh EH9 2NZ. All welcome.
Next Sunday is the World day of Prayer for the Missions. As well as praying for them there will be an opportunity to support them financially through a retiral collection after both Masses.
Diary Dates:
20th October: First practice for new altar servers after 9.00 a.m. Mass i.e. around 9.45 a.m. It will last half an hour. It is still not too late to offer your services.
25th October: Put the date in your diary and come along at 2.00 p.m. for afternoon tea in the Church Hall to raise funds for the parish project. An afternoon of sumptuous sandwiches, teas, coffee, cake, sweet treats and lots of fun promised. Tickets £8.00 will be available soon.
26th October: Meeting of Parish Pastoral Council at 7.00 p.m. in the Church House.
22nd July – 3rd August 2016: The World Youth Day takes place in Krakow in Poland. The Archdiocese has a limited number of places (35) available for young adults. Full details are on the poster in the porch.
The Society of St Vincent de Paul (SSVP) is a voluntary charity whose aim is to tackle poverty in all its forms through the provision of practical assistance to those in need. There is now a combined conference covering St. Cuthbert’s, Our Lady’s and St. Mary’s, Ratho. This ranges from visiting the sick and the lonely, to offering financial assistance. Emergency Cover only while I am in Lourdes with a Jumbulance group will be provided by Father Tom (449.2372) once he gets home from his holidays on Tuesday, Father Tony Quinlan at St. John Ogilvie’s (453.5035) or Father George Donaghy at St. Joseph’s (443.3777). I am grateful to them for providing this support and to the parishioners who will be looking after the house.
