Today: There is a letter from Bishop Toal, writing as Bishop President of SCIAF, asking for your support in response to an emergency appeal to help in the response to the refugee crisis of which everyone is well aware. Please make sure you have a copy as you leave Mass. There will be an opportunity for you to respond directly by means of a retiral collection after Mass.
Sunday: The Tea/Coffee Morning takes place in the Hall after Mass. This week the Ladies group will be in charge. Why not pop round after Mass for teas/coffee bacon rolls etc and also the chance to meet fellow parishioners ?
Tuesday: St. Augustine’s High School Open Evening from 4.00 p.m. – 6.00 p.m. All are welcome to visit the school. There will be guided tours round the school along with opportunities to meet some staff and pupils and see displays of work. Why not go along and see what the school has to offer especially if your children are coming up to High School age.
Wednesday: “The Church Here and Now” is a series of four talks being hosted by the Newman Association, with speakers and dates as follows below. All are from 7.30 p.m. – 9.30 p.m. in St. Catharine’s Convent in Lauriston Gardens. The first is entitled “The Church Here and Now – Experience from Latin America – a model for our own church?- a conversation with Fr Henry McLaughlin.” All welcome.
Thursday: Meeting for parents of P4 children who are eligible to make their Confirmation and First Communion in the course of the current school year. It is at 6.00 p.m. in the Church hall. The children need not be present but hopefully each child will be represented.

Thursday: The Annual Gillis Lecture will be delivered by Father James Crampsey of the Sacred Heart on the topic of ‘Pope Francis and his Jesuit Legacy.’ It will take place at 6.30 p.m. for 7.00 p.m. in the Gillis Centre and will be followed by refreshments. Friday: St. Augustine’s Parent Council is running a Family Social/Disco night from 7.30 p.m. – 11.30 p.m. in St. Kentigern’s Church hall to raise funds for the school. Tickets are priced £3.00 or £8.00 for a family one and are available from the school office or by email at stauggiespc@hotmail.com. It is a bring your own food and drink occasion.
Saturday: Car Boot Sale in the car park of Our Lady’s Currie from 12.30 p.m. – 2.30 p.m. If you would like to book a spot for your car, please phone Diana on 07846929052 or Gerard on 07799078531. It is £10.00 per spot. This goes to the Parish Project Fund. You keep what you make unless of course you donate that to the Fund as well. Fuller details are on the poster in the porch.
Saturday: Conference on ‘Vocation & Mission ‘today’ of family in the Church’. It begins with Mass at 12.30 p.m. in the Sacred Heart, celebrated by Archbishop Cushley who will then give the key note speech in the Lauriston Centre. This is in anticipation of the Synod on the Family being held in Rome in October. There will be other speakers, discussions and times for prayer along with information about family life organisations. It is scheduled to finish at 4.30 p.m. Fuller details are on the poster in the porch.
Diary Dates:
9th – 11th October: The Beginning Experience are holding a residential weekend for those who find themselves alone again through widowhood, separation or divorce. Fuller details are on the poster in the porch.
25th October: Put the date in your diary and come along at 2.00 p.m. for afternoon tea in the Church Hall to raise funds for the parish project. An afternoon of sumptuous sandwiches, teas, coffee, cake, sweet treats and lots of fun promised. Tickets £8.00 will be available soon.
22nd July – 3rd August 2016: The World Youth Day takes place in Krakow in Poland. The Archdiocese has a limited number of places (35) available for young adults. Full details are on the poster in the porch.
New Altar Servers practices will be starting very soon. Those who have offered their services will be contacted with the date. It is still not too late to offer your services.
The Society of St Vincent de Paul (SSVP) is a voluntary charity whose aim is to tackle poverty in all its forms through the provision of practical assistance to those in need. There is now a combined conference covering St. Cuthbert’s Our Lady’s and St. Mary’s Ratho. This ranges from visiting the sick and the lonely, to offering financial assistance.
