Sunday:The Tea/Coffee Morning takes place in the Hall after Mass. This week the Vocations group will be in charge. Why not pop round after Mass for teas/coffee bacon rolls etc and also the chance to meet fellow parishioners.
Wednesday: Laudato Sì – there will be a final opportunity to study the letter on the environment by Pope Francis on three evenings in September two chapters each evening from 7.00 p.m. – 9.00 p.m. The Green Group at Lauriston invites you to get to grips with Pope Francis’ challenging and inspiring text, during three informal ecumenical discussion evenings. We welcome the EcoCongregation Scotland Environmental Chaplain, the Church of Scotland Climate Change Officer, and the other moderators, and look forward to working through this important document with you! Next Saturday/Sunday: There will be a retiral collection at the end of both Masses for the Aged & Infirm Clergy Fund of the Archdiocese a fund which helps meet the costs involved in looking after the priests of the Diocese who have served long and well and have now retired.
Next Sunday: Annual Margaret Sinclair Pilgrimage will take place in St. Patrick’s in the Cowgate from 2.00 p.m. – 6.00 p.m. More details will become available.
Diary Dates:
24th September: Annual Edinburgh Catholic Teachers’ Mass for staffs, teaching and support, along with retired staff members. It is at St. Catharine’s Convent at 7.00 p.m. with refreshments following on. All are welcome.
25th September: St. Cuthbert’s Primary School will be hosting a Tea and Cake event in the school as part of the Macmillan World’s Biggest Coffee Morning. It begins at 11.00 a.m. so don’t be late. All are welcome.
29th September: St. Augustine’s High School Open Evening from 4.00 p.m. – 6.00 p.m. All are welcome to visit the school. There will be guided tours round the school along with opportunities to meet some staff and pupils and see displays of work. Why not go along and see what the school has to offer especially if your children are coming up to High School age.
2nd October: St. Augustine’s Parent Council are running a Family Social/Disco night from 7.30 p.m. – 11.30 p.m. to raise funds for the school. Tickets are priced £3.00 or £8.00 for a family oner and are available from the school office or by email at stauggiespc@hotmail.com. It is is a bring your own food and drink occasion.
3rd October: Car Boot Sale in the car park of Our Lady’s Currie from 12.30 p.m. – 2.30 p.m. If you would like to book a spot for your car, please phone Diana on 07846929052 or Gerard on 07799078531. It is £10.00 per spot. This goes to the Parish Project Fund. You keep what you make unless of course you donate that to the Fund as well. Fuller details are on the poster in the porch.
3rd October: Conference on ‘Vocation & Mission ‘today’ of family in the Church’. It begins with Mass at 12.30 p.m. in the Sacred Heart, celebrated by Archbishop Cushley who will then give the key note speech in the Lauriston Centre. This is in anticipation of the Synod on the Family being held in Rome in October. There will be other speakers, discussions and times for prayer along with information about family life organisations. It is scheduled to finish at 4.30 p.m. Fuller details are on the poster in the porch.
9th – 11th October: The Beginning Experience are holding a residential weekend for those who find themselves alone again through widowhood, separation or divorce. Fuller details are on the poster in the porch.
22nd July – 3rd August 2016: The World Youth Day takes place in Krakow in Poland. The Archdiocese has a limited number of places (35) available for young adults. Full details are on the poster in the porch.
New Altar Servers are required to build up the existing band of loyal servers. Boys and girls, especially those who have just been confirmed and made their First Communion, are very welcome to offer their services to the Parish in this way. It would be good to see some of them coming forward. All ages are welcome. Adults also are very welcome to volunteer for this important role in the Parish. One or two have indicated that they would like to become servers. If you wish to volunteer for a future Servers’ Rota please let me know. I need to know by today so that practices can start.
Job Vacancies at Gillis (2) are advertised on posters in the porch. One is for a Night Supervisor and the other is for a Caretaker/Gardner.
Many thanks to those who came along and helped in the cleaning of the Hall recently. Their efforts were much appreciated. It is important that all Hall users make sure they tidy up after they use the Hall, the kitchen and the toilets.. It was amazing what was found and a lot of it was due to people leaving things for others to do.
