Sunday: There will be no coffee mornings until after the holiday period since there are not enough volunteers to set them up and run them.
Today – a sign the holiday season is drawing to a close with the Retiral Collections resuming. This one is for the African Missions and the Holy Places. This is split between the Vatican for use in African countries where the Church needs financial support and the Holy Land where it is used to maintain the Christian sites and support pastoral work with both Christian and non-Christian groups.
Sunday: The children’s liturgy begins again during the 10.00 a.m. Mass. This is for children from Primary 1 to Primary 7 and is not for pre-school age children. It is an opportunity for the boys and girls to come together and celebrate the Liturgy of the Word from Mass at their level and in their language. The numbers had dropped significantly towards the end of last session which is dispiriting for those who give a lot of time and effort to preparing the materials to lead this time of prayer and worship. There is a risk it will be discontinued, which would be a great shame, if the numbers coming do not improve. So parents please encourage your children to come forward at the beginning of Mass and take part.
Tuesday: Meeting of priests and three representatives of St. John Ogilvie’s, St. Joseph’s, Our Lady’s, and St. Cuthbert’s in St. John Ogilvie’s to begin to prepare for the meeting with the Archbishop which was referred to in the bulletin a few weeks ago concerning the restructuring process within the Archdiocese. No date has been set by him for this meeting nor has a venue. That will be a meeting to which all of you will be welcome once we know the date.
Next Sunday: Mass of Thanksgiving for the recent Archdiocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes at 3.00 p.m. in the Church. All are welcome whether you travelled to Lourdes or not.
Diary Dates:
1st September: Do you know of anyone interested in becoming a member of the Church ? It may be someone from your own family, a friend, a neighbour, a work colleague. There will be a meeting in the house at 7.30 p.m. at which more information will be available about the process called the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults or R.C.I.A. for short. No commitment is made by coming along to this initial meeting.
6th September: There will be National Gathering at Carfin to pray for the success of the forthcoming Synod on the Family in Rome. Bishop Toal of Motherwell will be the main celebrant and preacher at the Mass at 3.00 p.m.. There will also be the opportunity to visit the recently re-opened shrines within the Grotto. If enough were interested it might be possible to organise a bus in conjunction with Our Lady’s but it would need someone to look into costs etc. Any volunteers ?
20th September: Annual Margaret Sinclair Pilgrimage will take place in St. Patrick’s in the Cowgate from 2.00 p.m. – 6.00 p.m. More details will become available.
3rd October: Conference on ‘Vocation & Mission ‘today’ of family in the Church. It begins with Mass at 12.30 p.m. in the Sacred Heart, celebrated by Archbishop Cushley who will then give the key note speech in the Lauriston Centre. This is in anticipation of the Synod on the Family being held in Rome in October. There will be other speakers, discussions and times for prayer along with information about family life organisations. It is scheduled to finish at 4.30 p.m. Fuller details are on the poster in the porch.
9th – 11th October: The Beginning Experience are holding a residential weekend for those who find themselves alone again through widowhood, separation or divorce. Fuller details are on the poster in the porch.
22nd July – 3rd August 2016: The World Youth Day takes place in Krakow in Poland. The Archddiocese has a limited number of places (35) available for young adults. Full details are on the poster in the porch.
New Altar Servers are required to build up the existing band of loyal servers. Boys and girls, especially those who have just been confirmed and made their First Communion, are very welcome to offer their services to the Parish in this way. It would be good to see some of them coming forward. All ages are welcome. Adults also are very welcome to volunteer for this important role in the Parish. One or two have indicated that they would like to become servers so far. Please collect an information letter from the sacristy after Mass. There is still time to volunteer your services.
Church Cleaning: Due to retirements and other commitments the number of people involved in cleaning the Church has dropped drastically. It means that it will not be possible to clean the church on a weekly basis. It will now be cleaned every second week. In the meantime it would be helpful if you collected your own litter as you leave especially crisps, sweets etc and take it away with you.
