Today marks the close of Catholic Education Week when we are asked to remember and celebrate the importance of educating children and young people in faith and to reflect on how we are ‘Proclaiming the Joy of the Gospel’ in our homes, schools and parishes. There will be a letter given out at the end of Mass along with a retiral collection for the work of the Scottish Catholic Education Service.

Today: SCIAF materials for use during the Lenten Season are available as you leave Mass. This includes the ‘Wee Box’ which has an added importance this year since the U.K. Government has agreed to match what is collected £1 for £1 by May 17th.  This only applies to Wee Box money and not to the collection taken later in Lent.

Sunday: The Coffee Morning takes place after 10.00 a.m. in the Hall with teas, coffees, bacon rolls etc on sale. The Ladies Group will be in charge of it this weekend.

Sunday: 200 Club Subscriptions for 2015 are now due.  If you are an existing member please put your money in an envelope with your number and name on it.  The subscription is £12.00 per annum.  If paying by cheque please make it payable to ‘St. Cuthbert’s Church.’  If you are a new member please put your name and ‘new member’ on the envelope.  We need to keep numbers up if the prizes are to remain at the existing level. Even if everyone who had numbers last year renewed their subscriptions there would still be 81 unallocated numbers.

Sunday: Annual Mass in honour of Our Lady of Lourdes and to mark the World day of Prayer for the Sick at 3.00 p.m. followed by refreshments in the Hall to which all are welcome.

Wednesday:                          Ash Wednesday.

The season of Lent begins.

Today is a Day of Fasting and Abstinence, one of only two left in the Church’s year, the other being Good Friday.  The law of fasting applies to all over 18 until the beginning of their 60th year.  The law of abstinence (refraining from eating meat) applies to everyone over the age of 14.

Masses here will be at 9.00 a.m. and 7.00 p.m. and ashes will be distributed at both Masses.

Saturday: The Race Night to add funds to the Parish Project Fund will take place.  All of the advanced booking horses have now been sold but even if you do not have one you are more than welcome to come along on the night and bet on your favourites. There will also be one additional race for which the horses are bought on the night by auction.  It is a B.Y.O.B and Nibbles night. If you would like to sponsor a race and have it named after you then please speak to Ben Malone (443.1708) for further information.  Basically the Sponsor gives a prize which in turn goes to the winning owner of each race.

Next Sunday: There will be a Remembering Service in St John the Baptist’s Church, St. Ninian’s Road, Corstorphine, at 5.00 p.m. The service is for those who have suffered the death of a child from the beginning of pregnancy onwards, whether recently or at an earlier time.  It provides an opportunity to participate in a formal acknowledgement of their grief. Those who wish to come in love and support are also most welcome.  It is hoped that representatives from organisations that provide counselling for stillbirths, miscarriages, and abortions will be present and available after the service
