Today: The Book of Remembrance will be available at the back of the Church in which you can add the names of relatives, friends or parishioners who have died within the past twelve months. If names are already entered they do not need to be repeated.
Today: Ladies involved in the washing and ironing of the altar linen who have not received their rotas by email please come in to the sacristy after Mass to collect their copy.
Sunday: The Coffee Morning will take place after Mass with bacon rolls etc available. This weekend the Fair Trade Group will be in charge. Why not make time to pop round to the Hall and see what is on offer as well as meeting fellow parishioners.
Wednesday: St. Cuthbert’s Primary School Open Day from 10.00 a.m. – 12 noon and 1.30 p.m. – 2.30 p.m. If you are new to the area and are considering a school for your child you will be welcome at your local Catholic Primary School to see what it has to offer.
Diary Dates:
10th November: Meeting of existing St. Cuthbert’s Parish Pastoral Council in the house at 7.00 p.m. All councillors please make every effort to be present.
12th November: There will be a Safety and Awareness training session for volunteers working with children or vulnerable adults in St. Mary’s Cathedral Hall from 7.00 p.m. – 9.00 p.m. It is necessary for all volunteers to take part in such a session so if you have not been on a session recently please make every effort to go along. Please advise Mairi Allan or Monsignor Tony if you are going to ensure you are booked in. You can also contact the Safeguarding Office at Gillis direct (629.8943)
13th November: Meeting of all those who have expressed an interest in becoming a Parish Pastoral Councillor at 7.00 p.m. in the Church Hall. It is an information evening and no commitment is made by coming along.
21st November: ‘Sangstream’, Edinburgh’s Scots folk choir will give a concert in St Cuthbert’s hall at 7.30 p.m. in aid of the Parish Project. The choir, which sings traditional and contemporary Scots songs, has performed throughout the Edinburgh area. It is hoped you will come to support the charity and at the same time have an enjoyable evening hearing their rich sound. The choir has also performed in Italy and Denmark. Tickets, priced £7.00 will be available after Mass.
Parish Pastoral Council: Over the past joint meetings of the Parish Pastoral Council meetings of St. Cuthbert’s and Our Lady’s, a great deal of discussion has taken place about revitalising the Councils in both Parishes. As a result of people retiring or moving away the number of Councillors has dropped significantly. The need therefore is to encourage new councillors to come forward.
A strong, vibrant and active Council is going to be vital for the future of both Parishes as Archbishop Cushley’s plans for the future of the Archdiocese emerge over the next weeks and months.
If you are interested please sign on the sheet at the back of the Church. It would be good for a real cross section of the parish to be represented. The list will remain at the back of the Church until the end of October after which, on 13th November, there will be a meeting for all those who have expressed an interest to hear about what is involved and what could be happening before making a decision as to whether or not you decide to go ahead. Depending on how many names are on the list elections may have to take place. Putting your name on the list and coming to the meeting does not commit you in any way.
A New Readers’ Rota is in the process of being prepared. If you would like to offer your services please contact Patricia Allison at the stall or myself. No experience is necessary since some training will be given. It would be good to increase the number of committed readers we already have.
Please Note: Next weekend marks the Feast of the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica.
The prayers and Readings for Mass on Saturday night and Sunday morning come from the readings for that day and not the Ordinary Sunday of the Year. Readers please check the lectionary before Mass.
Primary 1 Enrolment: Was your child born between 28th February 2010 & 28th February 2011 and do you live within the school catchment area ? Then your child can be enrolled at St. Cuthbert’s, your local Catholic school, for the August 2015 intake on 11th November from 9.30 a.m. – 12 noon and 1.30 p.m. – 2.30 p.m. and on 13th November from 1.30 p.m. – 3.00 p.m. If these times do not suit, an appointment can be made to enrol your child at a different time.
Fuller details are on the poster in the porch. If you are not sure about the catchment area please contact the school for clarification on 443.2621.
With every best wish and blessing to you,
your families and
all those who are dear to you.
Monsignor Tony
