Today there will be a box at the back of the Church into which you can put petitions for prayer to be taken to Lourdes on the Archdiocesan Pilgrimage. These should be in a sealed envelope and with no money inside since they are often burned unopened. These will be taken to the Grotto and Mass will be offered for all the intentions.
Please pray for all the people who live and work in Lourdes and whose lives and livelihood have been devastated by the catastrophic floods which took place last week. The recovery operation has been incredible and as a result our Pilgrimage will not be too drastically affected but the aftermath for these people will take months to recover from.
Today: The annual collection for Peter’s Pence will be taken up after both Masses. This is used to enable the Holy Father to respond to the many charitable requests he receives each week.
Sunday: There will be no coffee morning after Mass for the time being. There may be occasional ones over the holiday period dependant on volunteers being prepared to run them.
Sunday: Mass in preparation for the annual Archdiocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes will take place in the Church at 3.00 p.m. All are welcome whether travelling to Lourdes or not.
Diary Dates:
21st July: Mary’s Meals is a charity well known to many of you for their outstanding work. One of the ways they raise funds is by collecting unwanted/unused clothing towels, curtains, bedding, blankets, handbags shoes and belts and any other textiles. and then turning them in to funds to carry out their work overseas. For better clothing they receive a better price but even for rags they can raise money. 2 black poly bags filled with textiles can generate enough funds to feed a child in Malawi for one whole year (approx £7.00). A van will be collecting unwanted/unused clothing and other textiles after 10.00 a.m. Mass. Please note only textiles can be collected so no bric a brac please. Volunteers will be needed to fill black bags as materials are handed in. More on that part later. This collection and then reselling of the textiles raised £73,000 last year for Mary’s Meals. There will also be an opportunity to buy raffle tickets with some star prizes – more details later. You are welcome to start bringing materials from next Sunday or as you start packing all your new clothes for your holidays.
1st September: This may seem a long way off but time will soon pass. The two councils have planned a pilgrimage to St. Mary’s Cathedral to mark the Year of Faith. It will begin with a talk from Monsignor Regan, the administrator after which he will show some of the historical artifacts’ which are housed in the Cathedral. There would then be a short service followed by a High Tea in the Cathedral Hall. More details will be available in due course including the cost.
The Stall has the latest edition of ‘Living Faith’ available, covering July – September, available, priced £1.40.
Parish Projects: At the joint meeting of the Parish Pastoral Councils of St. Cuthbert’s and Our Lady’s held on Tuesday last the following was agreed after much discussion. There would be two beneficiaries from the funds raised. One would be a third world charity, chosen with the help of SCIAF. They will be asked to nominate three potential projects to the Councils which are not high profile but needing funded. The second beneficiary will be a charity called ‘Calum’s Cabin’ named after a young boy who died very soon after being diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour. It provides respite holidays for families where children have been diagnosed with terminal conditions. It allows them to have a holiday in Bute. More literature is on the way to give more details.
The commitment to Parish Projects will be for two years after which the money will be split equally between the two charities.
In a way it is now over to the parishioners of both Parishes to fund raise in whatever way they wish – individually, in small groups, running functions to raise money. Be as creative as you wish (as long as it is legal) and advertise for support through the bulletin if you plan an event.
Holidays: If you are going away, I hope you have a safe journey and come back refreshed and relaxed. If you are staying at home, I hope you find some time to relax and take a break from your usual routine.
