Today: The next Bonus Ball sheet is available for the draw of 22nd October. Each entry costs £1.00 with a prize of £30 and £29 going to the Parish Project.

Sunday: The coffee morning takes place in the Hall after Mass. The Fair Trade Group will be in charge today.  Why not go round to the Hall after Mass and sample the goods on offer.

Wednesday: ‘Share the journey exhibitionStories from the Rohingya Refugees in Bangladesh will take place in St. Patrick’s Cowgate from 8.00 a.m. – 6.00 p.m. every day until 9th November. All welcome to view this moving exhibition.

Friday: St. Cuthbert’s Primary School will be hosting part of the Macmillan Biggest Coffee Morning. It is from 11.00 a.m. – 12 noon.  All welcome to go along.  Entrance is £2.50 which includes teas or coffees and a plate of goodies.  If you would like to help plrsase contact the school on 443.2621

Next Sunday: Mass of Thanksgiving to mark the Canonisation of Oscar Romero, the late Archbishop of San Salvador, who was assassinated in 1980 while celebrating Mass. The Mass will be at 4.30 p.m. in St. Patrick’s, Cowgate and all are welcome to mark this occasion.

 

Diary Dates:

18th October: I will be leaving in the early hours to go on pilgrimage to Lourdes as chaplain to a National Across group on the Jumbulance. If you have any prayer intentions you would like taken to the shrine please put them in to a sealed envelope with ‘Lourdes Petitions’ on the outside. I will take them to the Grotto and will remember them in my prayers.

Emergency Cover while I am in Lourdes will be provided by Father Tom (449.2372), Father Tony Quinlan at St. John Ogilvie’s (453.5035) or the Augustinian Community at St. Joseph’s Broomhouse (443.3777). I am grateful to them for providing this support and to the parishioners who will be looking after the house. I will be remembering you and your intentions in my prayers during the course of the Pilgrimage to Lourdes this coming week.

31st October: St. Cuthbert’s Primary School Open Day from 9.30 a.m. – 10.30 a.m. or 1.30 p.m. – 2.30 p.m. All are welcome but especially parents who have just moved into the area and are looking for a school for their child. If you can manage please contact the acting Head Teacher and arrange a suitable time.  You will be welcome.

5th November: During this week, St. Cuthbert’s school will be enrolling for the August 2019 Primary 1 intake. If your child was born between 1st March 2014 and 28th February 2015 and you live within the school catchment area then they are eligible for enrolment. The school will have Open Enrolment sessions on 5th November from 2.00 p.m. – 3.00 p.m. and 7th November from 9.30 a.m. – 12 noon. Non district application forms are available from the school office and must be returned to the City of Edinburgh Council by 21st December. If you cannot manage the days and times mentioned above please contact the school on 443.2621 to arrange an appointment. You need to provide your child’s birth certificate, Baptismal certificate (if applicable) a council tax notice with your valid for the current year and a utility bill in your name dated within the last six months.

17th November: The next Fundraiser for the Parish Project Fund will be a 60’s Disco in Currie Bowling Club organised by the social group in Our Lady’s. Tickets will be going on sale soon but in the meantime please put the date in your diary and come along to refresh your memories.

 

The current total for the Parish Project Fund is £8074.58 following on the Margaret Sinclair walk which to date has raised £1294.00.   Once the fund raising is finished at the end of the year this will be split between the Aid to the Church in Need project in North East Nigeria and Street work here in Edinburgh.

Please hand in  any outstanding sponsor money as soon as possible so that a final total can be given. Thank you to all who took part and completed the course.
