The Funeral Arragements for Cardinal O’Brien are that the Funeral Mass will be on 5th April in St Michael’s Church, Westmorland Road, Elswick, Newcastle upon Tyne NE4 7RE at 1.00 p.m. and his burial will be on 6th April at 1.00 p.m. in Mount Vernon. There will be a Month’s Mind Mass in the Cathedral on 19th April at 12.45 p.m. May he rest in peace.

Sunday: The Coffee morning will take place in the Hall after 10.00 a.m. Mass with the Ladies group in charge. The monthly draw of the 200 Club will also take place.

Sunday: Stations of the Cross & Benediction at 4.00 p.m.

Sunday: Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament from 2.00 p.m. – 3.00 p.m. in Our Lady’s at Currie during which there will be opportunities to go to confession as part of your Easter Preparation. Both Father Tom and I will be available.

Monday: Service of Reconciliation in St. Cuthbert’s at 7.00 p.m. There will be five or six priests available for individual confession and absolution as part of our Lenten journey towards Easter.

 

Tuesday:          Mass of the Chrism in the Cathedral at 7.00 p.m.

(During this Mass the oils used throughout the year in the Church’s Liturgy are blessed and the priests of the Diocese renew their priestly promises. All welcome).

 

Wednesday: Mass at 7.00 p.m.    Following on the success of the Christmas Big Clean Up there will be an Easter Big Clean up after this Mass.

 

 

 

Thursday:                    Holy Thursday.

Mass of the Last Supper at 7.00 p.m. followed by watching at the Altar of Repose

until Night Prayer of the Church at 10.00 p.m.

We need at least two people to be present for the watching to ensure the Blessed Sacrament is never left unattended. Please indicate on the list at the back of the Church if you intend to be present.

 

Friday:                        Good Friday.

                                    (A Day of Fasting and Abstinence)

Vigil of the Resurrection and First Mass of Easter in St. Cuthbert’s at 8.30 p.m.

followed by refreshments in the hall to which all are welcome

                 Refreshments will be served in the Hall after Mass.

 

New Envelopes for Gift Aid Donors: Envelopes are now available from the Sacristy for use from 8 April.  Housekeeping has been done on the records, so some donors will now have a different number; to avoid any confusion please destroy any remaining old envelopes once the new tax year begins. The envelopes for non gift aid donors will be available from next weekend.

 

Two different Easter Egg competitions – One is the raffle for the decorated egg at the back of the Church and tickets are available as you leave Mass. The other is for the best decorated Easter Egg by children with categories being for under 5 year olds, 6 – 10 year olds and over 11 year olds.  You need to provide your own egg.  £1.00 entry per egg with the judging being done on Easter Sunday. Proceeds from both will go to the Parish Project Fund.
